Ideas
Here are rough notes of ideas, we were thinking about music and positive ideas for a short film. Because my usual genre is romance or something happy, I wanted to go for a darker concept. We are going to do two different productions, so one music video and one short film for 25-40 year old, to try and find music that is not only 'catchy' but also is targeted to the audience.
Short Film Ideas:
-'From Afar': The idea is to have a stalker who is watching this woman that he's been obsessed with, she's clueless at first until obvious signs occur and that's when she realises she's being stalked. Now she must find a way of escaping before he decides to take her for himself. (Genre:Thriller)
-Activist: This short film would be based on Greta Thunberg, who is a 16 year old activist. She wants to stop/prevent Global warming and wants everyone to learn how to look after our world. The idea is to have someone play her and show how she started to became an activist or to have a fictional girl with a similar story as Greta, as she too wants to stop Global Warming. (Genre: Political Drama)
-'Slasher': A young boy who goes against his friends after a massive argument that occurred during school, he feels angry and annoyed, taking revenge in the most horrific way possible. (Genre: Horror/Thriller)

Music Video Ideas:
-'Back in Time': Two friends sit together and discuss how unhappy they're with their lives now, which then transitions back in time to what their lives could have been like if they had changed certain events. It would help the audience learn more about the characters. (Genre: Drama)
-Murder: A young rich socialite recounts the events of murder, he actors all smug but he starts getting flashbacks and begins to freak, taking drugs to get away from it all. (Genre: Thriller) Possible songs for Music Video: Lover Boy by You me at six, Prey by The Neighbourhood, Cry Baby by The Neighbourhood, Honey Whiskey by Nothing But Thieves and Why'd you only call me when you're high by Arctic Monkeys.
-Friends: Two friends who have an on and off relationship, they try to work it out to see if they should actually be together. At the end of the day, they find out they should be much more. (Genre: Romance)

Survey Results
We sent out a survey asking what idea for the Short Film was best, the majority of people who voted were not of the age range but we thought getting other peers opinion was important and was needed quickly within the time frame we had. Around 68% voted for the short film about Greta Thunberg. I'm glad this one was the favourite as it was very different from the other two ideas and it's a much happier production rather than having it really dark.
We also asked which Music Video people liked the most. Two ideas got over 40% votes, which was about the murder or the 'back in time'. I do like both ideas but Jermaine and discussed that we both preferred to do the murder story as it's a lot darker and completely different from any of our past productions but also is different genre to our short film.
Final Ideas
Short Film (Greta Thunberg)
'Changing The World'
For the short film, we were thinking of having a girl who is inspired by Greta Thunberg to wanting to become an activist who wants to change the world and show the problem with global warming. Having the girl start off watching Greta on TV, where we see plastic in our oceans, wild fires, melting ice caps, etc. The girl's aim to create a protest, because when walking (maybe to school) she accidentally steps on a crisp packet which then leads to finding more litter around. One day she goes out to town to start her own protest which beforehand she told friends to please come join her. She then is left alone standing with her small sign. When going home, she spots a boy kicking a can around, proceeding on walking away, this is when tension is caused, she goes over to the boy to tell him off (we do not hear their argument) she shoves him and makes her way home. She's upset and frustrated and goes home to let the world know about her protest, making posters and flyers. She wants to go back to. the exact place she protest but make it even bigger. Originally we were thinking of having the actress play Greta but then realised that the location we are in isn't the same as where Greta grew up, neither would we want to copy her story so we felt it was better to have someone who was inspired and wanted to make a change, starting off in her town.
Music Video (Murder)
'Prey' By The Neighbourhood
For our music video, we want to have a rich smug boy killing because of jealousy at a house party. Right at the beginning we'll have to boy being investigated, he obviously doesn't care and knows he'll get away with because of money and power. The party scene will entail a lot of drugs (taken by the boy), cutting to him moving around in the crowd, people doing their own thing in their own groups, a lot staring over the boy too. He spots a suspicious conversation happening outside in the garden between his partner and someone else then him becoming annoyed and jealous , he becomes violate. Ending up killing someone, theres a panic and he's trying to hide the body as quickly as possible. When returning back to the house, it's all disoriented because of the amount of drugs and alcohol and the fear that he's just murdered someone. There's an argument between his friends and himself before he decides to exit the party, driving off despite everything that's just happened. He has constant flashbacks which take him back and forth between present time and the murder, even though he acts so casual about the whole thing, he realises how dangerous he actually is and drinks a lot more to get away from it all. There will be lots of colour and effects in the music video, as you'll see (as the audience) his perspective of everything that is happening.
Proposal
Rationale: Looking back at my pass productions from Year 1, I realised near the end (for my FMP) that I was getting better with my time management. Which really helps and it avoids stress and making mistakes, I think I should carry on with how I do my research which is to write in lots of details and to show every source I used (either secondary or primary). I do need to make sure I do my weekly blogs every week because I struggled when I had lots of blog to write near the deadline. Luckily by spending a lot of my own time, I was able to completed everything.
I think I still need to focus on getting my confidence when editing, I need to experiment more. I did a little bit more for my FMP, by adding more editing techniques than any past productions. So I just need to practice in my own time, I think it also helps that I am working in a pair, as we can help each other. I know Jermaine is very good at editing, so if we can learn together new skills we can make our productions great.
I decided to work with Jermaine for these two productions, I find him very hardworking and I think that we work well together because I worked with him before in the 'Strawberries and Cigarettes' music video (with Amina and Lexi too), I was one of his main characters in his FMP and we helped/starred in each other's radio dramas, so by working together we can put our ideas together. It maybe a little easier to work with someone else as this Unit has a lot more work and I need to experience working in a team more as a lot of my productions have been independent.
I feel I need to use more camera work, I don't think my camera operating is somewhat bad but there is a lot of room for trying new skills, when seeing the rules for what the music videos and short films should have, I'm glad its pushing us to use different editing and camera techniques.

Project Concept: For the Music Video, we wanted to go for something a lot darker. In my pass productions they're usually quite light and happy but by making a completely different production, it'll show that I can produce a darker concept. The short film will also be very different from pass productions, as I find it more like a documentary but turning it more into a film with a fictional character playing a similar story to a real life person.
As there was only two options for our target audience, deciding 25-40 year olds as ours, we want to create something that they'd enjoy and would stay focused on. By going for something darker and more factual might be a lot more interesting than something of the ages 5-12 year old.
In my FMP, I not only used the Internet to research but I also looked at books, which I think I might do more since I found out a lot more in the books. I think looking at the Internet is quite limiting so by looking at books, it gives me a lot more information and helps develop ideas.
We will continue to use lots of surveys and lot more focus groups, since the target audience is 25-40 year old we need to send out surveys to people of that age as their opinions will matter a lot to what we should then do with the productions and so on. Using social media will probably be a better way of finding more about what people think as my usual target audience age is 16-20, which means I can ask people in my media classes but this time, I need to talk to adults. We will use primary research a lot as it's always important to know what others are thinking and they can help us figure out what's there to improvement and what they wish to keep.

Evaluation: Every week I will update my weekly blog, this is where I will explain everything I've done in the week and it also helps me figure out what work I still need to complete or change. Then right at the end of the unit, I will create a final evaluation where I explain everything, including all the problems we faced, everything that went well and what would I do differently next time. I will send out surveys throughout to gather information for my research and my evaluation. I am aiming to get to a high grade, which is a distinction but to also make two productions that people really enjoy and that is perfect for the target audience. I think working with Jermaine will be very good as we are both hardworking and are aiming for high grades, we both have similar ideas and I think it'll make the process a lot easier as we can help each other out when filming two different types of productions for one target audience age.
