Survey
I decided to post a survey and ask my peers their opinion on my draft music video edit, to see if there were good parts about it and where there is room for improvements. My first question was what was good about my production, I got a lot of nice feedback and very motivation. People had noticed my VHS effect and were very fond of it, others thought the storyline was very clear which is such a relief to me as I want people to understand my narrative as it's mainly just narrative with only performance at the beginning and that people really understood what was going on. One person mentioned my camera work by saying 'I think the camerawork is really good, I think you have used a good range of locations' I was worried when filming that people would struggle to see clearly because I've never been really strong with my camerawork but I made sure to add a lot of elements that are in usual Pop videos, like wide shots and close-ups, personally my close-ups are my favourite as they really show the emotion of my characters. Someone also mentioned they liked the beginning scenes of the friends beginning together, I always loved that whole part of the video because of how natural it is, it doesn't relate much towards to love but shows love of friends having fun together.
The second question I asked was about my improvements, if there was anything people wanted me to add or change. A few people mentioned about the ending and even recommended things I could add, 'have a bloopers/credit scene' I would like to add those but I feel that music videos don't tend to add credits at the end as that's more of a short film type of ending and I would add bloopers but I feel they're are more personally to me and the actors I filmed with, I do have clips I want to add to the end as I ran out of time to add those in. 'Maybe add a filter to make a warmer kind of atmosphere' a few people mentioned this too, I am hoping to add a bit more warmth to the production, as I agree it does look a bit dull, I'm hoping to add a bit of an orange/yellow filter to create the summer glow. 'Use more effects', I do want to enhance my VHS effect as I don't find it visible enough, some did mention for me to add an overlay which has this glitch look to it making the camera work look a lot more old fashioned but I also agree that is mould add more effects, maybe to create a cutting to the beat with a few scenes or a few zoom ins to add a bit of difference to the rest of the scenes.
Editing Process
For the VHS effect, I first chose the clip I wanted, then by adding an adjustment layer I was able to create a Warp wave which makes the lines appear on the screen. The noise makes it look grainy like an old piece of footage. Then adding the VHS overlay on top of the adjustment just creates the white lines, to get it more of a VHS look.

This a photo of my cutting to the beat, it was really easy to do. I used the cutting tool and clipped the footage to wear the beat changes (three times) then I zoomed in on each clip to really enhance the beat difference.

I added a large adjustment layer on top of all my clips, as I found this easier then going through every piece of footage and changing in the colour. I felt that all I needed to do was to was add an orange filter because all my locations were outside so the natural light helped brighten the area. the orange filter, was to warm the temperature as it felt a little too dark and didn't fit the summer vibe.
