Proposal
Rationale: Throughout the course I have improved and learned new skills, I think a lot has changed from the very first unit until now. I have developed my camerawork skills, as before the course I only knew the basics but now I understand more about camera techniques, you can create an atmosphere with only using different angles and positions. But I've also learned some much about editing, which I know I have room to improve. Back in Unit 3 I started to look more into editing, as before I didn't really know anything about editing, I didn't even know much about the software (Premiere Pro) but since then I want to explore more techniques and have more confidence when editing (try something different).
Project Concept: For my final production I am debating on whether I should do a short film or a music video, I know the camerawork is very important but I really want to focus on my editing, I want to have more confidence in myself and add new effects and transitions to make the production more exciting. I also want to make sure that once I decide my production idea, that it reaches the certain target audience I am aiming for, I'm thinking about either doing a music video or short film on romance or do a short film that has a dark concept but is covered by colour and brightness, or to have a important message that others can relate to. Throughout my research I know my idea will either change or develop, I will look at other similar productions to get inspiration and see the sort of camerawork and editing techniques they've used (making sure I Harvard reference). When deciding my final idea, I will release a survey of all three of my ideas and get peer feed back, also letting them decide which one they prefer, but I will also get feedback from my tutors, to see if there is room for improvement or any easy changes that I didn't notice before.
Evaluation: Every week I will complete a weekly blog (which I'll put into the 'Weekly Blog' page) I will discuss what I've been up to in that week but also what work I need to catch-up on (if needed) and whether or not I will have to use my own time. I will also make sure my website is always updated, so everyone is able to see my progress.

Ideas (Music Videos)
My first idea I want to use the song 'Cherry Cola' by Kuwada, this song gives off summer vibes and overall is quite chilled. It will be about a couple, who are shy at first when around all their friends but as the video continues they go out on dates and film each other (making it look very natural). You don't know much about the couple but you know that they're very much in love.
My second idea will be about a group of friends, who are getting ready to go out to meet at night. Each person lives a different life style but as they make their way to meet up, they all sit out watching the stars. As they await for the last person to join, they see him across the road, a bright light appears and a car has hit him. This song is very upbeat but with this dramatic narrative, it challenges the pop culture.
My third idea is about a love triangle, between childhood friends and a new exchange student. The main character (girl) has always liked her childhood best friend but she doesn't know if he feels the same. Until one day, the new exchange student takes her interest, now she doesn't know who she likes the most.
Survey
The survey I sent out was only two questions but before people asked the survey, at the top I put short description of my music video ideas. The most popular idea was number 1, as four people voted on this idea, I am happy that mostly everyone chose number 1 as it was my favourite idea but doing the survey helps me known other people's opinion. As I've had this idea for quite awhile, even though I do like the other two, I feel like I've settled on the story I really want to do.

Then the second question asked was 'Why do you like this idea?' I got a lot of positive responses, the comments are got for Idea 1 were, 'It can have a range of filming locations and sounds the most interesting', 'There is a lot of potential, to keep the focus on the couple you could try to separate them from the others by having them wear happy/romantic colours while the friends are slightly more dull' I like this comment as they also give me advice on what I could add, which is to make the couple really stand out while everyone else is dressed in neutral colours. 'I like the idea because it doesn't sound complicated and seems fun. It shows you many sides of a young love and how they prefer to spend their youth creating happy memories instead of concerning themselves with thing that might ruing their youth.' that's exactly what I wanted to show, a new young couple in their 'honeymoon stage' of love, there's no worries or arguments. 'I think idea one is the best because I think you could find some cool locations in London and the beach is also a great location.' I want to film in London and on a beach, I'm glad people are having the same sort of ideas and when I show my final production, people will think the music will match the video.
'I like romances, and I think adding drama to it will make it more interesting as you don't get many love triangle music videos' this comment is from someone who liked my third idea (the love triangle) even though I won't be doing the third idea, I do agree that having a love triangle is rare in a pop music video and would be an idea to come back to in the future.

Final Idea
For my final major project, I am doing a music video about a young couple in love (ages 16-17). In the beginning, I want to include a group of friends hanging out, they're all having fun, it's late and they're laughing loudly (just enjoying themselves). I want to make my camera to look 'homemade' as if they're recording each other (quite shaky and natural) I will also go to the beach and London, where I will use the same technique in parts when the couple are alone. The whole video will be as realistic as possible and will show young love. Right at the beginning, the main character (girl) is sitting on the beach, at the start of 'Cherry Cola' a phone call between the a girl and a boy, I want to recreate that just using the girl speaking on a phone in the middle of the beach (an old fashion phone). Then it will transition to the group of friends (maybe they're walking down a street at night or at a park), then back to the beach, hopefully using a lot of close-ups (of hands, smiles, hugs) and wide shots. It will be daytime and hopefully be very sunny. They start looking around souvenir shops, playing around with sunglasses and jewellery and ends up buying a cherry coke. They also go to London, where they go out for a date, a much more 'grown up' setting than playing around at the beach. At the end there is an instrumental, I want to have a montage of the couple sitting at the beach and in London, footage of the waves and crowds of people (sped up), holding hands (when out with friends, at the beach and London) and finally to have a heart made out of stones (close-up turning into a wide shot) as the music ends.
I want to film in 'pretty' locations when the couple are together, to also make it look picture perfect and quite aesthetic. Having a lot of colour and using bright filters will also give of the summer vibe but also show the romance.

Final Production Survey
For my final idea survey, I decided to ask four questions that could help me understand how people see my idea and what opinion they have of it. As my first idea was the most popular in the previous survey, I decided that is the idea I will do for my FMP. My first question of this survey was 'What do you like about my idea?' I got three responses back, the first comment liked my idea of having a younger couple and even suggested that my target audience could be of the same age, which I think is a really good idea and could create a connect between my characters and the target audience. The second comment liked my idea overall and even mentioned that they'd watch it (the people I sent my survey out to are between the ages 16-18) so they fit my target audience. The last comment says they like the 'realistic story' rather having an exaggerated and unbelievable, because the song is so 'chill' I think having something quite natural and simple would work better than having an exaggerated love.
For the second question of the survey, I ask 'Is there anything about my idea that could improve?'. The first comment says I need to look for exciting locations (maybe in London) to make my production more interesting, as at the moment I think people are finding my production quite simple as the second comment also mentions to film in 'unordinary' locations, to make my production stand out. I agree with this as I want to make my production stand out and I take their advice and look for locations that I find fit with my idea (and theme) but will also grab the audience's attention. Though the last comment still likes the simplicity of having a natural romance, they even suggested that they could just go to the movies or stay at home, I do like this but I agree with the comments before.
I also asked 'What is your interpretation of Young Love?', this could help me get ideas and see how people view love at their age. The first comment mentions the honeymoon stage, where the love is new and the couple are obsessed with each other and can't leave each other alone. The second comment just says that it's a couple that haven't been together for long, maybe they're not as experienced with love and do a lot of public display of affection (PDA). And the last comment also mentions that they would be obsessed with each other but that they love spending time with each other, the music video will be quite happy so I want to make sure the young couple are as in love as possible.
And the final question was 'Could you recommend any locations where I could film?', the first comment says I could film in a cafe, restaurant or a park so the couple could have a date night in London, maybe I could find a location that has lots of colour and gives of the romantic mood. The second comment actually suggests places to film in, like 'Gods Own Junkyard' as in my last production my group and I filmed in 'Gods Own Junkyard', it was an amazing location and really made our production stand out. They also say to film on a Ferris Wheel which in my opinion is quite romantic, especially filming in the sunset, I may have a look at upcoming fun fairs. And the finally comment actually suggests places (towns, cities) to film in, I actually would like to film in Brighton and London, as Brighton has a lovely beach, lots of shops and a pier, and then London has lots of possibilities. I never thought about filming in Oxford, maybe I could research more into that and see whats there.
Competition
The competition I would like to take part in is the Barnes Film Festival. This year the festival will be taking place in September 2019, it allows filmmakers around the UK to show off their individual talents and show others what they're capable of, to then bring out award-winning films.
Their film competition has three different age categories:
I will be taking part in the 13-18 age category (as I'm 16 years old), for that the film must be 5 minutes long (though that doesn't include credits). It can be filmed anywhere in the world.
The films must have a budget of £500, as it's a low budget film competition.
The submission fees are:
The prizes are would vary depending on which category you partake, they include experiences such as courses,
software licenses and equipment.
I want to partake in this competition as I think that my work throughout has reached a high standard and that I plan for my FMP to be the same, I've never entered a competition before but I think the Barnes Film Festival is good as my first as it will allow me to show people of the public my own work, and also hopefully have a professionals have an intake on my music video.
