Research on Websites

Sean Halpin is a web designer, where he reaches out to the audience by offering his help or his services, by promoting his social medias (Twitter) and also creating a discussion box on the notes tab, not only for him to help others but for people to talk to each. Right at the bottom of every page is a link saying 'message me', pressing on the link takes you to mail which you can then proceed to email him about anything, this is so the viewer doesn't have to go through lots of tab to look for a way of contacting, that they can easily find it at the end. The website is sweet and short, its not over complicated, it only has three tabs which are all clearly named and easy to know what would be on each, 'About', 'Work' and 'Notes', 'About' being his introduction on himself, 'Work' is about is past/recent projects and 'Notes' about contacting him and he also explains more about his portfolio. He uses cartoons to show what to do, as some people prefer to look at pictures to learn something rather than reading massive paragraphs as that can be quite time consuming, as well as having simple steps written out as once again paragraphs can be quite boring for someone to read and could possibly put them off. He talks a bit about what he's been up to in his "Work" section, this is not only to let people know what he's been up to but also a way of advertising himself for potential jobs for the future. His font is clear to read but it also helps that isn't much write, the images and cartoons are a great touch onto the whole thing, as it makes it look more appealing and interesting to look at.
Though I think the colours are quite bland, it doesn't really grab my attention as much as a colourful website would, he does have colour on his website but nothing that really grabs you, though the cartoons are a bonus and I think personally helps his website out as it's makes it somewhat a little more interesting, the cartoons are what brought to me carry on looking at the website as I thought they were quite fun. I also feel he needs to make it more obvious that he is looking for a job, as the 'hire me' link is very small and hard to spot unless you scroll right to the bottom of the page, but he does always remind viewers that they can contact him either via email, twitter or dribble.
Overall Sean's website advertises him very well, even on the 'About' page, the first thing you read is 'I'm Sean, a web designer' you already know his job and he then carries on throughout his pages advertising himself and also using cartoons as a fun touch to not keep the website too simple.

Malika Favre is a French artist who is based in London, to find out more about her I had to go to her 'About' page, this information is kept away from her home page 'Work'. Her website is full of her pop-art work, as she wants to promote her work more than anything, which customers are able to buy from her store that even has its own tab, making it easier to locate the art works that are available to buy rather then clicking on a load of images on the 'About' page, but if you also hover your mouse over the images it will come up the art's name and price. They're also able to view on her Instagram account that she even created a tab for or just by pressing on the images you can view them on a bigger screen. She uses a small amount of words and the website is mostly full of her work, some people prefer to look at pictures rather than reading lots of paragraph, she even made sure her 'About page' had large font and was clear to read but also was not too complicated or uninteresting. Her website is full of colour and is quite lively, even the photos are actually gifs and move around, just to make it look more exciting and grabs your attention, I especially like the fact that there isn't hardly any writing so all your focus is on her work and you can also tell what kind of website it is by just looking at it. Right at the side of the page (right hand side) there is an eye icon, hovering the mouse over it a list appears, 'All', 'Fashion', 'Beauty', 'Travel', 'Portraits', 'Politics', 'Movies', 'Animals', 'Sexy', 'Geometric' and 'Stripes', and she also has circle icons that are different colours, by pressing on each of them the images on the main page change and the ones that are close to (for example) fashion will appear, making it easier for the viewer to see specific art work.
Overall, I like her website a lot and I think that the many colours really make it exciting to the viewers, it pulls me in as a viewer, I also think its cool how there are hidden icons and tabs which take you back to her art work but make it easier to get around her website. I also think that her store is easy to use, as you press on the link and takes you straight to the basket to then proceed with the purchase. I do think she needs to add a little more describe about her or her art work, I think people would find it more interesting if she wrote about her work and how she was inspired to create it, and how it's meaningful.

Will Warr is a filmographer and photographer, who's website is simple yet effective, his website is quite basic but works well when viewers just want to get straight to the point. He uses a large font size on his titles which is clear to read and is easy to spot, it also makes his website look neat. On the home page, it clearly indicates that Will is a Freelance Film-Maker, as this is a way to introducing himself and to advertise his job. The first thing you notice when opening up the website is the photo of purple sprouting broccoli, even though the colours aren't bright or bold, the green and purple is still very noticeable, it's also quite unusual and must be his own photo as he's a photographer which is another way of promoting himself. When Will writes about himself on his "About" page, the description is short but gives enough detail about who he is, it's also got a professional photo of him so not only the viewer knows what he looks like but also knows he's quite the professional and serious for business. Another detail that Will has added is right of the bottom of his pages, he has put icons for links to his social media accounts, though the problem with the icons is that they're too small and could easily be missed. An improvement for the website is, its quite repetitive with what its posted, for example he has a section for weddings already but if you go into "photography" there is the same sort of wedding section, but the "Wedding" section has more detail than the one within "Photography". I also find it difficult to get around on the pages as it's hard to locate what you actually want as the opening page only has icons which then allow you to find other parts of the website, I think he needs to make his website clearer by allowing the viewer to move around easily without getting confused and not finding a way of getting back to the home page.
