Week One
What have you been asked to do?
For this unit, I have been asked to create two productions for a certain target audience (either 5-12 year old or 25-40 year old). We get to either do a short film or stop motion or music video. A short film has to be 5-10 minutes, with no dialogue. A stop motion which is 1-2 minutes long, made up by foley sounds. A music video must have a parallel edit and cut to the beat. We've also been allowed to go into pairs, which allows the work load to be easier for each person as there is more help.

Why have you chosen this target audience?
Jermaine and I have decided our target audience will be 25-40 year old. I think we both find it easier to think of ideas for an older audience (older than our usual which is 16-20) than 5-12 year old because we can produce something darker. I also know a lot more people within the age range so it'll be easier when getting others opinions. But since we want to go for something very different than pass productions, it's not a good idea to create a darker concept for such a young age.

What two productions have you decided to make? How do they allow you to improve your skills?
We've decided to do a music video and a short film. I've already done a few music videos and short films so I'm hoping that if I keep doing them then I can improve on skills and also develop new ones. I want to be able to use different techniques, which is cutting to the beat, parallel edit, I enjoy doing montages. To focus on camera angles, especially since the short film has dialogue the camera angles are really important as they can also create tension.
The short film will be a political drama, about a subject that is very recent and important, camera angles will help tell the story so using more than just wide shots and close ups, having a lot more mid ways and having much wider shots to show a lot more in a scene.
While with the music video, the editing will be a lot more important, wanting to make it a lot more exciting rather than a typical dark (black and white) murder. I'm still not very confident with my editing so I'm really happening that if I practice some editing skills (like adding transitions, colour, etc) then when I do my final it'll so what improvements I've made from adding editing effects to these productions.

How did the focus groups/surveys help you to select your idea?
We only had time to do a survey, within that survey 16 people answered. The majority of people who answered the survey were between the ages 17-19, which was not our target audiences age but we thought that if we got other people's opinions anyway, it'll help our idea process. In the future, we will send out surveys to our target audience as their opinions are what matters the most.

Are you on track this week?
The problem I always face every time we start a new unit and have to come up with new ideas is that I'm not sure what I want to do. It always takes me time to figure what sort of genre I'd want to do and I worry about what kind of production my audience would like. Sometimes this process of thinking can really effect the amount of work I have to do once I decide on the idea. Luckily I am working with Jermaine, I found it easier to come up with an idea as we both brainstormed, via text, email and in person to figure out about our idea and what kind of message we would want to pull across. I am now on track with most of my work because I didn't spend as much time overthinking about my idea and was confident enough with our decision.

What work needs to be completed for you to catch up?
All we need to do now is think about our ideas in detail, by texting and emailing I am writing down the notes from our conversations and I then need to put it down in my Be Creative tab to show that we've decided on our finalised ideas. We know somewhat on what the stories will be about but we are thinking about what the characters would be doing in between times so theres no gaps. And also to be comfortable and confident enough to know that these are the two productions we want to do in the next three months.

Week Two
What did you find out about your target audience through your secondary research?
I found out that our target audience are mostly millennials which are people born between 1981-1996, they're caring people and care especially for the future of other generations. They like to spend a lot more family time rather than working, they enjoy watching factual programming (documentaries), reading, playing/watching sports, a lot more sociable including going to the pubs more leading to liking alcohol more (wine and beer). And the most popular social media is Facebook as around 58.5 million people around the target audience age use Facebook. Overall I know that the majority weren't brought up with iPhones and other sort of smart technically (like people around my age were) so they spend a lot of their free time doing a lot more social or educational things rather than spending lots of time on their phones.

How will this help you in adapting your idea to meet the chosen audience?
We can make our short film a lot family and friend oriented, making it very positive near the end. But also because they care so much about what happens in the future, by making the character so determined it'll really show how much she cares and what strong target she has. I think because the start of the music video will be very sociable as it's at a house party, it'll fit within what 25-40 would usually do in their free time, not necessarily at a house party but because we are making our murderer younger than the target audience age it seemed more fitting. From the focus group as well, we realise it's best to not make the music video so gory as not many people enjoy that and would prefer something that would make them think rather than cringe.

How useful was interviewing people from your chosen target audience?
Our focus group was extremely helpful, not only did they tell us personal information about themselves (for example what they liked to do in their free time and what they valued in life) but they also gave us amazing advice and recommended a lot, so for our music video we should watch 'American Psycho' as that has a dark concept but not a dark setting. Overall it really backed up the information found in the secondary research, that they value family, friends, new experiences and caring for the future. That's why I think our short film idea will be very appealing as now we have a young girl who cares so much and has strong ambitions. Even though the concept of the music video would be quite dark, the idea of having the setting light seemed to run better with our focus group, as then the murder isn't too cliche.

Was it difficult to get a large response to your survey? How could you improve the amount of respondents for your FMP?
I personally found it very difficult to get responses for our survey, only because of the age range I don't really know lots of people within. So I first sent it out to my sisters (who are within the age range) and to their friends. I know Jermaine asked his mum to post of Facebook and asked his sisters (and their friends) to complete it too. After a few days of still having a small amount of responses I asked my mum to post a message (with a link) about it as I knew a few family members and her friends were within the age range. Sadly we never really made it to 30 responses.
I think next time I post it on a lot more social medias, including instagram, twitter and on my own Facebook because I find any response is good as it's someone else's opinion. The problem I find is I know a lot more people who are either below or above the target audience age, so it's a matter of finding more people who fit perfect between.

Here is the message my mum sent out on her Facebook, we thought Facebook was the perfect place to post the survey as when doing our primary and secondary research Facebook was the most used social media within the target audience age.
I did think the survey was far too long and would put people off because of the amount we had to ask. So maybe next time we can avoid that by making it a lot simpler. |
What have you found to be the key things that you should be targeting your audience with? What makes this audience different to the one you never chose?
I think our short film is already targeted towards our audience because it has elements of what we discussed in our focus group and also in my secondary research. Of caring for the future, which means caring for the environment (climate change) and that to make it all work she needs a bigger group to come together, adding to the sociable aspect. It's a very relevant topic and I think by picking a relevant and important topic it'll be very fitting to our target audience as we want to spread our message as the girl is inspired by a young activist. For the music video, I think avoiding much gore and allowing our audience to think (sort of like a brainteaser) it'll grab their attention more.
The other target audience was 5-12 years old, which is a lot younger and I think I would have struggled to think of an idea fitting for someone that young but also find out (focus groups and surveys) about what a child would like. Though the usual target audience I have is 16-23, a lot younger because I feel as if I can make ideas easily as people between those ages have the same sort of taste as me. Though I think having this target audience age is good because I think challenging myself will really benefit me in the future, as I'll be able to broaden my ideas.

Are you on track for this week?
I wouldn't say I was too behind, as we've already got our survey out and also filmed our focus group. There's just a lot of writing to be done and lately I've been struggling on what to say and what I think fits for our target audience when looking at music video and short film examples. The problem I always face is what to write and makes sense. Constantly checking if the things I've evaluated actually fit our target audience and what would be better to put in codes and conventions rather than target audience.

What work needs to be completed in your own time?
I need to analyse the survey results and the short films that I thought were fitting for our target audience. Then I need to create infographics to sum up all the results and research I've found, which should be the last thing I have to do before we start the next stage.

Week Three
What genres have you chosen and why?
For our short film, we have chosen a political genre. Where we looked at films and short films relating to current issues or showed determination from the leadings protagonist (for example Erin Brockovich) choosing this genre is exactly where we should be looking when thinking about our idea, knowing what needs to go into a film that is all about an important subject. Then for our music video, we chose to look at thrillers, a thriller isn't like a horror because it can have horrific scenes and can be intense but isn't there to scare you and it's more about the dark concept, I think a thriller fits our music video idea because it'll be intense throughout and will have scenes that involve minor gore but will not be scary and we do not intend to freak our audience out.

What have you learnt from your secondary research this week?
I've learnt a lot when looking at the three videos of analysing scenes within movies, I chose 'Silence of the lambs', 'Inception' and 'Fight Club' within these videos they go over every camera angle, sound and character performance within one scene to show how such little detail can really tell a story. For example in 'Silence of the lambs' when Clarice and Hannibal are talking, the camera can be at a low angle to show someone who is powerless, while a camera at a higher angle can show power and control. When a character is staring directly at the camera the point of view is from the other character as they're looking off slightly. Then in 'Inception' use shaky camera to show that the building is coming down, to make it seem that the whole place is shaking even though in reality nothing really is. And 'Fight Club' the importance of getting the sound effects right and sounding realistic, for example the punching they tested out wrapping celery in clingfilm to see if that made sounds of bones cracking while also punching chicken carcasses with chestnuts inside. It's always a trial and error but any sort of test is good to make a great sound effect.

How will this influence what you include in your productions?
Thinking more about the mise-on-scene, how the camera is angled to tell more of the story and just little elements seen in the two videos we had to analyse. For mise-on-scene looking at where they should be filmed, for the music video I think having a bright location with a dark concept still works very well, like in 'American Psycho' where he lives in a very neat and tidy apartment. though everything seems so bland, just white and grey (sometimes beige) their clothes were boring and simple but his personality was a whole other story, very violent and completely changed how you looked at things. But I also liked the ending on whether you should let the audience figure out how the movie ended, did he actually kill all those people or did he not or did he kill everyone expect the guy at work? Then from 'Why'd you only call me when you're high?' the camera angles and props/decor were very important as you felt how he felt but also could see his emotions on the outside (from when the clock melted down into a sad face) I like the idea of having the camera go side to side and quite shaky to show that he's 'out of it', because we want our main character to be drugged up and drunk, it's good to show the audience how he sees everything using camera angles. For the short film, Erin Brockovich performance, someone who doesn't seem like they can have a great effect and because how she looks people don't realise how smart she actually is, that same element we want to in our short film, having a girl who doesn't seem like she can do it because she's too young, too shy but actually can have a massive impact on the world.

Are you on track for this week?
I am running a bit behind, sometimes I find it difficult to write down everything into large paragraphs. Usually I like to watch over something and makes lots of notes in my notebook but when it comes to actually writing it all down, I tend to struggle because I don't know how to put my thoughts into larger text.

Week Four
What have you learnt from your secondary research this week?
We have been analysing videos with no dialogue, narrative structure, characters, locations, colour and soundscapes. To see what sort of things need to be put into our productions, especially for the genres too. The no dialogue and soundscapes are really important for our short film because we needed to see how people have created a whole short film without needed words, using actions and sounds a lot more, which are emphasised as a replacement for words. While the narrative structure and locations are important for our music video because we want to have a non-linear structure which can be a little hard if you don't want it to confuse the audience, while the locations are important as they've got to be eye-catching and fit with the genre (thriller). The colours and characters are important for both since thinking about colour would set the mood, as we tried out on a practice with our characters which allows us to film in a certain colour scheme which we can then enhance in editing. Characters are the key parts, you can go for the stereotypical types but we've decided to move away from that a bit and make our characters seem somewhat different, especially in the music video.

What developments do you need to make to your production for it to meet these codes and conventions requirements?
For our political film we need to think more about the colour correction and to show the characters mood using the time of day it's filmed, since most of our music video will be filmed at night. We need to go into more depth with our characters, thinking more about how they should dress and how they act using their facial expression since they can't talk in either of our productions. In a thriller stereotypically you'd have a villain, princess and a hero, we would rather just have a villain and princess, since we are keeping that concept dark but the locations are a big deal too since they explain more about the character so we need to go out of our way to find locations that would perfectly suit our characters.

Are you on track for the week? What work needs to be completed in your own time?
I just need to complete two more video analysis from last week about our genes. I have most things up, but I tend to write notes in my book and then it takes time to actually get everything. I still need to write up the stereotypically characters within the genres, locations to find some that fitting for our genre and narrative structure (only two videos left).

Week Five
What did you learn from your planning?
I learnt that it's always best to complete a rough production schedule before starting anything, as it allows you to know how much time you've got to complete and contact your actors. It also helped me get auditions together since I knew when we are planning to film and how available everyone is. Then it's best to get the proposal done quite quickly as well, so it's out of the way and you know your aims for the production.

How will this be useful as your production process continues?
It means we won't have to go back and forth trying to fill in our production schedule as quick as possible. Jermaine and decided that it would be best if we shared out the work equally so there wasn't so much pressure to do everything alone. Then I would make documents and send them via email to him so he could put it in one large production booklet that we'll share out at the end. Since we shared it out equally, we have basically finished our first production booklet for the music video and will spend Week Six on the short film booklet.

What issues did you encounter whilst planning and how did you overcome them?
I was having trouble finding locations for us to film which were close to where our actors lived, as I know that some of them don't have cars or have a bus pass so they aren't too happy with travelling far. It just took awhile to await for replies from people so we could use their homes as locations in our productions. Luckily I was able to get hold of them and ask for the exact date (since we knew when we were free to film in) and we are now able to film at all of our addresses making sure we've still got back-up in case. The house which we were going to film in for our confession scene wasn't going to be available since the whole house is going under construction but by moving the dates around and asking our actors for an earlier date to film, we will know be able to film there too.

How much work did you complete outside of the lessons?
Getting the auditions ready and contacting others, I will need to do this outside of lessons since most of our actors will be at sixth form or work. And I also need to get all documents completed inside of lessons so Jermaine and I can talk face to face about what works well and what doesn't, especially when doing the shooting script.

Are you ready to film next week and if not, what do you need to complete to be ready?
We aren't filming for another two weeks, so we've got time if we don't think our work is at a good standard or minor things need to change but we are more than ready to start our short film booklet. Though we do need to discuss the plans and the narrative with the short film as we still haven't decided where the drama side will actually go but I've already contacted actors who are more than happy to audition anytime soon.

Are your storyboards up to standard?
I think the storyboards are the only things we have yet to complete, since neither of us are good at drawing, we keep going back and forth seeing what looks better and if the picture makes sense. Luckily Jermaine already wrote all the description underneath each box explaining what the action is so it'll be easier to start drawing.

Week Six
How did you find the filming process?
I really enjoyed our first day of filming (Wednesday 16th October) we didn't really know what we'd get when we went to the Extinction Rebellion since a lot of crazy stuff has happened days before. By taking two cameras we both collectively got footage of things we saw and of our actor, who's character is really into the protest. |
Did you encounter any problems during filming? How did you overcome them?
We struggled on finding the actual location, since the website for the Extinction Rebellion didn't have an exact location as to where they'd be on that day. We were sort of running around London trying to figure out where would they hold a protest. We even went to London Bridge as it was mentioned that a few protesters were there not that long ago but nothing was happening when we actually turned up. So by going onto social media, we found that a lot of recent arrests had happened at Trafalgar Square, as we headed over, that's exactly where everything was happened.
I did have a problem with my camera, as it kept saying my SD cards were errors. Luckily I got a bit of footage beforehand but Jermaine also had brought his camera too as we were able to carry on filming.

After reviewing footage, what do you feel you need to reshoot?
Since where we were it was so loud, so when reviewing our footage we were only able to see what we had gotten and not heard the sound. So when I went back to college to listen to everything again, I realised the fountains were very loud in the background and was hard to hear exactly what they were saying and there was also a man (who was protesting) banging a loud drum and my camera picked that up more than any other audio. Since the protest is over and we weren't able to go back and film again. We decided that when editing we could add faint music over the footage (only for the protest) so the background noise isn't the main thing the audience here.

Are the locations you filmed at suitable to your production?
I think the Extinction Rebellion was the perfect place to film, since it was all about climate change and our production is all about a young girl trying to change the world to stop climate change. It was busy and packed with loads of different people, with a lot of different activities happening, since people brought their own posters, others placed masking tape over there mouths as a silent protest (which our actor also took part in) there was a to of police there and people dressed up to represent animal extinction and Mother Nature. I think it was an important location in our production and it really showed the characters determine for change too.

Are you keeping up with your production schedule?
We're keeping up well with our production schedule and we've already confirmed with our actress to film the following Wednesday for the rest of the short film. Luckily we filmed the protest since it was only a two week thing and would not be running until later on (probably next year). I still need to catch up with written work, but our production schedule is completed (only need to add photos to our locations), the letter also needs to be 100% completed and ready for next weeks filming.

What footage still needs capturing?
We still need to film at the second location which is the flat the character lives in, where she'll write the letter to the Prime Minister and also shows the type of environment she's living in (which includes the petrol station, the busy road and the walk to the bus stop) and the way she's trying to change her lifestyle for the better. Since the letter is almost finish, we are trying to decide what other small bits of our own footage can we add to explain more about the letter since there's no dialogue so she cannot read it out loud.

Week Seven
How did you find the filming process?
This Wednesday we filmed at the second location which was the flat. This is where we filmed the writing of the letter, the scene of her turning off all unused devices and the everyday walk to the bus stop. Once again I found this a lot of fun, since now the production is really coming together, that we only have a couple of more scenes to film and some footage to find before we can create a simple structure of the production when editing.

Did you encounter any problems during filming? How did you overcome them?
The problem that did occur was when writing the letter, we needed the whole thing written out since we needed to film certain sentences from paragraphs but we never realised how long it would actually take our actress, which it was then took a lot of filming time away but luckily we had started filming quite early on in the day, and the owner of the flat said we can stay until late afternoon so we had the majority of the day to film exactly what we needed. I had also forgotten my camera but Jermaine had brought his, so we just reshot scenes from different angles using his camera.

After reviewing footage, are you happy with what you have captured?
We need more footage of Liz writing the letter, since we have the same repetitive scene of her writing. We need to talk to her and find a day where she is free to reshoot. But everything else is perfectly fine and the audio is nice and clear but we can use foley sounds if the background noise of the fountains are too noisy.

Week Eight
How are you finding the editing process this week?
This week not only did we edit but also filmed the first part of our music video (Sunday 10th November). The filming went extremely well and I was able to film the confession scene right at the beginning of the song, so once we film the rest I've already made a start. I've almost completed my short film production, though I need someone to double check it so I can see what changes I can make, before the deadline since I don't want to overlap my short film editing and music video.

Have you encountered any problems whilst editing? How did you overcome them?
I struggled with reaching five minutes for the short film, I'm still looking and adding footage to use to reach the minimum time. We still need to arrange with our actress a time to reshoot the writing scene, she's most likely free on Thursday 14th November so that will help get more footage which will fill out the production more and I won't have to avoid using the same scene over and over again.

Are there any new techniques you are trying to use during this editing process?
Jermaine inspired me to use an effect of getting images and overlapping them onto one another to create a smooth transition since they're not videos. I would grab one image and use key frames to have it zoomed in very extremely to then zoom out so the viewer can see what is written on the article about Brexit. Then I would do the same to another image which overlaps on top of the first one, and so on and so on. I also used key frames to zoom into the letter and move across a sentence so the viewer can read the important sentence that relates to the next clips shown.

Are you on track with all of your work?
I always fall behind when it comes to editing, only because I'm never really confident and happy with what I produce and I feel as if I need to keep going over the same footage to see if it actually fits. I would hope in the future units, especially the FMP, that I can organise my time well and not avoid editing until the last moments because I don't find my work good enough.

What work needs to be completed outside of lessons?
I still have one part from codes and conventions to complete, though I have been having issues with my Weebly page and it won't allow me to download certain images, I'm finding it hard to create a montage of locations for codes and conventions. I also need to continue with my editing and keep up with my weekly blogs as I don't want to fall behind. We also need to finish filming all of our music video and edit it as quick as possible for our deadline, we will be filming the murder and house party scene on Saturday 16th November.

Week Nine
How did you finding the editing process?
I think the editing process went well, the short film editing did take me quite a long time to complete since I struggled on if everything fit and how to present the letter. With the music video, we've had shorter time to edit since we were filming in the last week before the deadline is due. Meaning we have to great a good enough production for our target audience within a few days but I think it'll be easier to manage since the music and shooting script helps since there's a guide on where the clips should go, rather with the short film I have to figure out what looks best where and sort of follow along with the script depending if the footage is at a good standard.

Have you encountered any problems whilst editing? How did you overcome them?
For the music video, I found we didn't have enough footage to fill the length of the song. This made it really difficult not to make the footage longer or reuse the same clips. Since we don't have enough time to film more, I've had to reuse clips but change the colours and add effects over them to make it more exciting and different from when I've previously used them.

Are you happy with the outcome of your productions? Why?
I do like our productions, the short film since it has a very strong message and is all about a young girl who's passionate about a dream. While the music video is a lot darker than my previous productions and I was very excited to film for it. Though I do think the short film has a lot of B-roll footage, which makes me think we should of filmed more of our own, make it exciting with our own footage so we could of also shown our techniques. I am happy with the music video but looking back there are scenes that we are missing, that we forgot to go over since there was a rush and crazy hassle with working with a large group of people, also in a limited amount of time due to their A-levels. Overall I will learn from the little mishaps made and will avoid making them again in the final. I am glad we are doing this unit, because not only has it made me learn more about working with someone but also allows me to learn from my mistakes so I don't make them in the future.

How did your productions meet your target audience?
Our target audience didn't want to see anything gory in our music video but they did want to be left guessing when it came to how did she get killed and why. By doing this we gave an outline of a story but they could interpret it to whatever they want. The part where the murderer is on the phone to someone but never actually getting in trouble for killing his girlfriend, confusing for some and obvious for others. For the short film, we made sure to film a lot of the protest and show footage that explains the letter further as people can struggle figuring out what was written. The target audience wanted a character who was passionate and looked as if she'd fit right into the film, they wanted more action so we made sure to get every exciting thing that happened on the day of the protest, since it was quite dramatic and these people all had a passion.

What aspects of your productions could have been better targeted to your audience?
I think maybe using older characters, since we want to fit the target audience, having an actor who is older than 17-18 would of gotten the audience to relate to them more. Maybe even a university student would have been better since they would like the same sort of things someone two or three years older than them. I feel the music video was somewhat gory but it didn't give off the creepy feel like the film 'American Psycho' which was one of the films we analysed, I think we should of filmed a lot more close ups of the murderer to also the emotionless expressions.

How effectively have you matched the codes and conventions you researched earlier in the unit?
We did think a lot about the locations, which I think is extremely important especially when doing the codes and conventions research, that the location is meant to grab your audience's attention. So when filming for the music video we found a location that would fit all extras and where we would be able to decorate to however we wanted, that the lights really gave off the creepy but aesthetic feel. Since we were so lucky with filming at the same time of the Extinction Rebellion, it allowed us to film in another crazy and exciting location that fitted right in the genre of our production. As well with the characters, you wanted someone quite stereotypical, so having Elizabeth as our character for someone who was out of the 'norm' but Scott was also perfect as he was able to give off the 'scary' vibe as someone who's serious and emotionless (much like the 'American Psycho).

How do you feel your work compares to existing professional productions?
When doing the video analysis we took aspects from them and try to create our own version. For our music video, with the Arctic Monkey music video the editing was something I really wanted to interpret in our own production, using Posterize Time this made the drugs and dancing scene look as if it's really having a effect on him and that the audience has an understanding of how bad he's getting. Then I think our actor has very similar characteristics as Patrick Bateman, someone who doesn't have such feelings despite murdering someone who he's romantically involved with. The only thing we took from 'Erin Brockovich' and 'Refuge' was having a strong woman who was very passionate and worried about a serious issue.

Are there any areas where your production falls short? How would you improve it next time?
In our music video when editing, there wasn't enough footage to film the whole song so I had to reuse clips but use different effects so it made it more interesting and could avoid the fact that I've just reused the same clip as before. I think next time, we need to just keep filming as much as possible of any scene, just move the camera around to show different angles making it more exciting. And also keep checking the shooting script to see if there is anything we could add on or anything that we missed. For the short film, I feel there isn't enough footage of the character, that I had to use a lot more B-roll, which didn't really show my techniques well but I think it's because we struggled when thinking of how to make it exciting but also since we couldn't use dialogue it was hard to add a lot of elements from the letter using just actions. I think in the future, since this was my first time doing a short film without dialogue, I will think more about the emphasise of someone's actions and how using body language can also tell the story rather than using words.

What have you learnt about yourself to take into the Final Major Project? What do you personally need to improve on?
I learnt that I need to be more involved, that I shouldn't back away because I feel my work isn't to a good standard or that I feel I don't bring any skills to the team. Since the beginning of the first year, I feel I've come a long way with my confidence but that is still the main focus, I've got to just go with what my head is thinking rather than worrying about it. I seem to put pressure on myself (which can be a good thing too) but it then puts me in a place where I lose focus and motivation due to not believing my work is actually good. I will learn from this fir my FMP, to show that I can do things as a individual and that I can get out of this little bubble of not being confident. I also need to make sure that when filming, fill as much as I possibly can because when editing I rather have too much footage then struggling to fit the amount of time. I also did enjoy going for an older target audience and a darker more mature concept, I would still want to keep the mature side but I feel I work well when its a production about something happy since I use the daylight to my advantage. Though it has made me realise that I can think of ideas that are really out of my norm and if I had a little longer, we could of filmed more to really perfect it.

Are you on track with all of your work? What work needs to be completed outside of lessons?
I just need to finish finding example locations on the codes and conventions, that's the only past work that needs completing. For now it's all about perfecting my editing and seeing what I could change within the few days we have left before deadline day. I need to complete some questions I missed on past weeks for weekly blogs and add photos to back-up what I've spoken about. I will do this in my spare time, at home, in the library and after lessons. Luckily I have Premiere Pro at home so I can catch up with editing there, after work too.

Week Ten
How did you choose to pitch your idea?
We decided to go for a simple slideshow, where we'd only show pictures and gifs of what we going to talk about. Rather than putting up loads of text onto the slides, since some people won't even read it and we also don't want to make it seem like we are reading word for word. The idea was to make our slides look interesting and eye-grabbing for the audience so not only do they listen to what we are saying but also look at the visuals and have a clear understanding.

What made your pitch stand out and be different? Why would it convince someone to invest?
So Jermaine is very good at making gifs, he's not only taught me how to create them but also others in our class. The gifs really added to our slides, it make it more exciting and also explained more about the scene as there was movement. It just showed that we added that little bit more effort into our pitch. I think people usually give their attention when they seem interested, not having loads of text on the slides and us only have minimum words on our cards allows the audience to actually listen in to what we are saying and they don't get too distracted by what's happening on the screen or taking time to read.

The gifs really added to our slides, it make it more exciting and also explained more about the scene as there was movement. It just showed that we added that little bit more effort into our pitch. How did the pitch go?
I think it went really well, it was my first pitch in front of a full class since my GCSEs, so I was a little nervous. But I think once I really got into it I felt more confident and my voice was loud enough for everyone to hear. I know we were both very passionate and got the point across about our productions. I'm glad we did this pitch and it was a practice for our final where we will once again pitch our ideas but next time as individuals.

Is there anything you would do differently in your next pitch?
Next time I think I'll time myself beforehand and figure out how long the pitch actually is because we were very close at going over the limit (which was 15 minutes) and had to sadly rush the end. I'll also make sure to keep practicing what I'm going to say because near the end I did spend quite a while looking down at my cards since we had to rush. But overall I think we both did pretty well despite both being really nervous to talk in front a large group of people.
